In April 2018, SAP communicated DIGITAL ACCESS, the new metric for licensing indirect use via interfaces. DSAG celebrated the new metric as the successful conclusion of a long-standing discussion about how to deal with SAP indirect use. In fact, DIGITAL ACCESS was not a plannable, commercially viable solution. Instead, many customers were attacked with surprising demands.

To achieve commercial viability, SAP created the Digital Access Adoption Program with a 90% discount on the metric. This discount has been extended recently (for the second time) - currently until the end of 2022. The binding / correct determination of the volume that needs to be licensed is still unsatisfactory.
